Dataset description

We provide below the full data set used by Simon et al. (Water Resources Research, 2020) corresponding to active-DTS measurements achieved in an experimental bench. The authors propose here two different and complementary interpretation methods for interpreting the temperature rise measured along a single fiber-optic cable used as a heat source and for monitoring temperature. The interpretation methods provide accurate estimate of both the thermal conductivity of the saturated porous media and the groundwater flow. The experimental data available here was used to validate the application of the methods and define its uncertainties and limits. A description of the experiment and of the general setup is available here.

Figure 1: Experimental setup showing the dimensions of the sandbox and the deployment of fiber optic cable [top view (x,y plane) and side view (x,y,z plane)]. The marks C1 and C2 represent connection points between fiber optic cable and electrical cables allowing the injection of electricity into the steel frame of the cable (Modified from Simon et al. (2020)).

The data was acquired in a lab at the University of Poitiers, which is part of the French network of hydrogeological observatories H+ (http://hplus.ore.fr/en/).

The data may be downloaded from the links below by creating a login and a password on the H+ database at http://hplus.ore.fr/en/database/acces-database.
